The Company
We consider it our responsibility as professional landscapers to protect the natural environment in which we live, work and play. Working in harmony with nature, we strive to attain the highest horticultural standards in a sustainable manner. We strongly believe that educating and advising our clients on the various plant species and their proper care is essential for a positive outdoor living experience.Jo Ann and Dave Marshall, principles of Trillium Landscape Design LLC, have over 32 years of professional experience in landscape plant sales, design and construction. Trillium Landscape Design was established in 2002 as a design only firm. However a year later, after numerous requests from clients, the company began installing landscapes projects, and maintaining gardens for select clients.
While Trillium Landscape Design LLC has had quite an evolution, the standards are exacting. Dave’s precision and love of gardening, and plants, is coupled with Jo Ann’s design, construction, nursery and graphics knowledge. This magical blend of creativity, love, and respect for the environment, results in a garden setting that truly beckons the our clients' families outdoors.
The Partners
Jo Ann Marshall came to the landscape industry by way of a circuitous route. She received her B.S. Degree from Wayne State University and worked for several geotechnical firms conducting materials testing and construction observation. While performing a roof inspection on a new building she witnessed the construction of the landscape elements below. Fascinated by what she saw, Jo Ann met the on-site Landscape Architect who encouraged her to take classes at Oakland Community College. She completed a certification in Landscape Technology and began a career in her new passion: plants!
Over the next 9 years, Jo Ann worked in the nursery and landscape design industry before attending the University of Michigan, School of Natural Resources’ Masters in Landscape Architecture program in 1995. She finished the coursework and rounded out her landscape construction experience by overseeing construction work on a five-mile long streetscape project in Livonia for a local Landscape Architecture and Planning firm.
Jo Ann has been a Michigan Certified Nurseryman with a Landscape Management specialty for over 15 years and is a MSU Extension certified Advanced Master Gardener. She has taught Landscape Design for Wayne County Community College’s Continuing Education program and for Ross Corporate Learning. She has previously served on Advisory Boards for Oakland Community College’s Landscape Technology program and Wayne County Community College’s Landscape Continuing Education program.
Dave Marshall grew up in Anchorage, Alaska where he developed his love for the outdoors. He is a MSU Extension certified Advanced Master Gardener and taught the Flowering Annuals/Perennials course for Wayne County Community College’s Continuing Education program. Dave has been a speaker at garden clubs, area seminars, and the Great Lakes Region Hosta Society’s Hosta College in Piqua, OH. He has found a special interest in ecologically sustainable landscaping to support wildlife, native plants, and the local watershed and aquifers. As a member of the Pittsfield Township Landscape Resources Committee, Dave designed and supervised installation of a Native Plant Demonstration garden.
Our Community Involvement
Along with Jo Ann and Dave Marshall’s community volunteer work done through the MSU Extension, Trillium Landscape Design LLC has contributed design work and landscape labor to various non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Saline Senior Center, the David R. Byrd Center, the Pittsfield Township Native Plant Demonstration Garden and several area churches.
